Welcome to Mrs. Selner's 3rd Grade Class!

  • Hi! My name is Kristen Selner, and this is my tenth year teaching 3rd grade at Hudson. My husband and I both graduated from Hudson, we have Henry who is 3 and Oliver who is 6 months!

I believe in educating with creativity, music and the arts. Classrooms should be full of life, learning and FUN! Students should be learning in different ways that allow them to explore ideas supported by critical thinking, inquiry and hands-on experiences. Students will have the ability to apply, analyze and reflect on knowledge constructed within the classroom. My classroom will be open to change and I will adapt to what my students want to learn and how my students learn best. I will encourage students to speak their mind and share their ideas by creating a safe and supportive environment. I will develop a sense of classroom community and teamwork where students will support one another both in and out of the classroom. I will often remind students that making mistakes is sometimes necessary because it is how we learn and grow as individuals. I will construct units, lessons and discussions that revolve around distinct essential questions, which will push students to think deeper and fight harder for answers. This will also encourage me to create activities and lessons in a variety of ways to make certain I appeal to the different types of learners in the classroom. I will encourage out-of-the-box thinking, and give every child the chance to succeed and grow. I will use music every day in the classroom to foster the exploration of ideas with a creative and innovative approach.

I believe in open communication from the child, parent, teacher and administration. Please feel free to contact me through remind, call me or email me. I am willing to talk about any topic you deem important for your child. Please allow for a 24 hour turn-around time on communication. Please do not leave messages or send emails that address your child’s bus or parent pick-up plans, as there are times that I cannot check voicemail or email until after school. These calls will need to be addressed with the main office.

Overall, I hope to encourage and support the dreams and aspirations of my students. I hope to engage these students every day and guide them to be responsible, respectful, kind and considerate. We will laugh a little, learn a lot and have FUN doing it!

    Fun Facts:

I am a musician! While attending Belmont University, I also worked on my vocals. I used to teach voice, and I just love music! I will try to bring music into the classroom as much as possible because I believe it is extremely valuable. I love to be creative, use technology and I am a future driven educator.
