Mrs. Carla Sweitzer
My name is Carla Sweitzer and I'm excited about being your teacher this year! I teach math, language arts, and study strategies classes in the 6 Respect Community. I'm looking forward to my seventeenth year in Hudson! Prior to this, I had 11 years of teaching experience in both special and regular education. I have a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and Special Education from Wheelock College in Boston, MA. I received my Masters degree in Counseling in 1993 at Gordon Conwell in Boston and love working with children and parents. Since 2006, I have accumulated an additional 45 hours to be current with the curriculum and instructional trends.
My husband, Jeff, and I have been married for 37 years and I have 3 children who are 24, 26, and 30 yrs. We have lived in Hudson since 2000 and have enjoyed making Hudson our home. Three years ago, my son Kendall married Anna Elsass and had our first granddaughter named Esther Joanna (2 1/2 yrs). Kendall is a project manager engineer at Advanced Drainage Systems in Akron, OH. My daughter Kaylyn is pursuing a Master's in Library Science and Information at Kent State University. My son Kyle works at the Acton Institute in development at Grand Rapids, MI and is marrying Megan Enyart from Royal Oak, MI this coming Labor Day weekend. We especially like strolling downtown, picking up coffee at Open Door, and visiting the Learned Own Book Shop or Metropolis Popcorn (love Midnight or Cashew Caramel). You can also find us hiking in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and hanging out at our neighborhood lake on hot summer days. We also enjoy camping, exploring Ohio, watching movies, and reading good books.
I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and learning together! Even though the middle school years can be challenging both emotionally and academically, I will be there to support you. I will encourage and challenge you to work to your potential, giving you strategies and skills, to build your academic foundation. I believe that sixth grade provides the essential skills for success for the remainder of your secondary education. Parents, I sincerely thank you for the time, interest, and energy you are investing in your student's education.
I will be using the Ohio standards to help your students succeed in school and to better prepare them for success in college or the work force upon high school graduation. These standards define the skills that your child should know and be able to do in English Language Arts and Math for both success inside and outside the classroom. I look forward to meeting you and working with you in partnership to make this happen! If you have any questions, I can be reached at the Middle School via email at email@example.com or by phone (330)653-1316 and request x2408 to be connected to my voice mail.
