Language Arts Description- Our Language Arts curriculum is taught through the newly adopted Units of Study for Teaching Reading from the Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing Project. Our classroom library is filled with 500+ high-interest books within all readers grasps. Students will be introduced to reading strategies through mini-lessons and then will directly apply those strategies during Reader’s Workshop. We will also be using the Fountas and Pinnell Classroom curriculum during guided reading groups.
We will teach our Writer’s Workshop also using curriculum designed by Units of Study for Teaching Reading from the Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing Project. The ultimate goal is for students to develop increased independence and dramatic growth in the level of their writing, as they become confident, engaged members of a larger, caring community of writers.
Home Reading- Your child should be reading a minimum of 20 minutes at home daily. *On average, your child should be reading at least 100 minutes per week.* Daily homework will be sent home.
