    “Geography: The World And Its People”

     

    …A survey of people and their culture throughout the modern world …

     

    SUBJECTS COVERED:

    During the year our class will be studying several regions around the world including Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.  We will study different religions including, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism. We will investigate world cultures (languages, foods, clothing and music). We will also have a brief overview of early civilizations. Finally we will study geography and further develop our map skills.

     

    GOALS FOR THE YEAR:

    -To provide opportunities for students to enjoy reading about historic people & places.

    -To provide opportunities for students to develop and strengthen

    geography skills.

    -To encourage “thinking” about the world around us, to expand

    world awareness.

    -To tie in current events, of the countries that we have studied.

    -To encourage independent learning!!!

     

    CLASS RULES:

    • Follow directions the first time given.

    • Be on time and Have all materials ready at the beginning of class.

    • Be respectful in speech and actions to everyone.

    • Practice the district P.B.I.S. for success.

     

    -At this point in your school careers you should know what behavior is expected while in school. As long as you maintain self-discipline, I will not have to remind you. Come to class prepared to learn. I will not tolerate any class disruptions that may interfere with other student’s ability to learn.

     

    GRADES:

    The grading scale in this class will be:

     

    A 90–100

    B 80–89

    C 70–79

    D 60–69

    F 0–59

    These are percentages of the total of class work that you will be doing each quarter. Points will be earned for tests, homework, projects and reports.



    HOMEWORK:

    I give very little homework so when I do assign it I expect it to be completed on time and without any drama.

    If a student is absent it is their responsibility to obtain work they missed.  Please refer to the Board in my classroom. Students will have the same number of days that they were absent to make-up work.

     

    KEY TO DOING WELL:

    Study and learn your Rockin’ Words vocabulary. We will have weekly quizzes starting next week.

     

    I-PAD!!!!!!!!!!!: This is the most important tool you have as a student.

    Take it home and charge every night.

     

     

    SUPPLIES:

    You will need the following supplies for class for the remainder of the school year unless told otherwise.

    - Folder labeled “Social Studies”

    -pencil or pen (erasable)

    -Charged I-Pad!!!!

    -notebook
