You can expect our English class this year to be one in which we have the opportunity to read and discuss some great works of world literature and informational text, then craft meaningful products to enrich our understanding of them. Expect to be held to high expectations at all times, and to experience success, as you dedicate yourself to our classroom learning community and the important work we will collaborate to produce. Our class will consist of an in-depth study of literature and composition, including formal research. We will also cover public speaking and study skills, as well as stress the importance of language proficiency, and vocabulary enrichment. Major works in past classes have included Julius Caesar, A Tale of Two Cities, A Separate Peace, Night, Strength in What Remains, and Cry, the Beloved Country. We will also extend our study to include assorted short stories, poetry, non-fiction, and film. In each unit, we will work toward mastery of Common Core content standards.
