  • Half-Day Kindergarten Schedule and Specials Schedule 

     

    A regular half-day session is 160 minutes total. After subtracting five minutes at the beginning and ending of our day for transition, half-day Kindergarteners will spend 75 minutes with Mr. Lantz and 75 minutes with Mrs. Curtin.

    • Math is taught by Mr. Lantz: 75 minutes: 25 minute Number Corner, 25 minute Bridges, 25 minute Workplaces

    • Language Arts is taught by Mrs. Curtin: 75 minutes: 40 Reading Workshop and Phonics, 35 minutes Writing Workshop

    Library

    As a part of our literacy programming, your child will frequently visit our school library.  A complete library is part of the building. A weekly library period is provided for each child. Our focus is to promote literacy for our students through their library experience. Introduction to literature, basic library organization and use are developed during these visits. Technology literacy is introduced through the use of author websites, our online catalog and use of The World Book Encyclopedia, online edition. Children are permitted to borrow one book at a time.

    Guidance & Leader in Me Program (The Seven Habits of Happy Kids)

    The Hudson City Schools are committed to providing character development through the Leader in Me Program in Grades K-5. It is the hope that the 7 Habits outlined in this program will encourage and promote such qualities as respect, responsibility, and readiness among all students. The 7 Habits are as follows: Be Proactive, Begin with the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood, Synergize, and Sharpen the Saw. Every staff member is committed to the goal of having all students achieve these qualities. Consequently, there will be student leadership opportunities, activities, and recognition integrated with the Leader in Me throughout the school year. Kindergarteners have regularly scheduled whole class guidance lessons with our guidance counselor. During this time, students work on learning The Seven Habits of Happy Kids in addition to the Auto B. Good program.

    Social Studies, Science, Health and Technology

    Technology, Science and Social Studies are integrated in the math and language arts curriculum. The Kindergarten Science and Social Studies curriculum provides students with stimulating experiences in the life, earth, physical sciences and technology embedded in our math and language arts experiences.  This tapestry of curriculum is ongoing throughout the course of the year.

    Social Studies is based on Ohio’s Learning Standards that are a framework of concepts and generalizations which are extended as the child progresses through the grades. Throughout the elementary grades, students will explore history, geography, government, and economics with guiding essential questions and real world application.

    The elementary science curriculum is based on Ohio’s Learning Standards and are structured so that concepts in life, physical, and earth/space science may be studied in greater depth through the grade levels with an emphasis on activities and the methods of inquiry-based "real science."

    Hudson believes in integrating technology throughout the curriculum. Various computing technologies are available for pre-K through fifth grade. Students will tools to access and enhance daily learning and overall student experience. INFOhio and other data bases are available for students to do research at school or at home.
