Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Julie Silcox and I am super excited to be teaching First Grade at Ellsworth Hill! I am privileged to have the opportunity to work with your child and to get to know you and your family. This will be my 3rd year teaching first grade at Ellsworth Hill, but my 10th year teaching in Hudson City Schools. Prior to teaching first grade, I taught kinderagarten and Supplemental Reading at Evamere Elementary School. I am looking forward to a fantastic year of learning and growing together. I am confident this will be a wonderful year filled with learning, new friendships, and many new experiences.
I graduated from The University of Cincinnati earning my Bachelor's degree in Special Education and my Masters Degree in Elementary Education. I am also a Reading Recovery trained teacher. This will be my 20th year of teaching in an elementary classroom setting. Prior to teaching in Hudson City Schools, I taught in Webster and Tonawanda, New York, Hershey, Pennsylvania, and Cincinnati, Ohio. I consider myself to be a lifelong learner. I truly believe that there is always more to learn and that knowledge is power!
I strive to create a nurturing classroom environment where everyone feels valued, accepted, and loved. My hope is for each child to develop their own love of learning and embrace a growth mindset. My goal is to encourage and empower my students to take risks, ask questions, learn from our mistakes, and to laugh, and have fun each and every day!
I currently live in Hudson with my two children. My daughter graduated from HHS in 2020 and my son attends Hudson High School. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my children, traveling and being outdoors as much as possible. My children and I love spending time with our friends, paddleboarding, hiking and riding our bikes in CVNP.
I am looking forward to a fantastic year of learning and working together!
