I grew up in Pittsburgh and earned my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. After college, I took a job with a steel company, expecting to work at their plant just north of Pittsburgh. They transferred me to Ohio before the end of my first year there and I've been here ever since. I worked in steel manufacturing for most of my career, but I did spend 1 year working at a snack food plant.

For my teaching education, I received a M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Akron.

I've been married to my wife, Maure, for 28 years and we have 2 sons, John and Tim.
