• The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley

    Week of March 11, 2024
We are so proud of Anissa, Vandy, Mia, and Elizabeth who were named as Finalists in the Maltz Museum Stop the Hate Essay and Poetry Contest! Thank you for sharing your stories, to inspire kindness in the world!

Students design “We All Fit Together!” puzzle pieces to promote belonging! Thanks to HMS PTO for decorating our halls as we look ahead to our Author Visit this month…Jerry Craft !!! Thanks to Hudson PTO and Hudson Kiwanis for your support of our students!

Students participated in our One Book One School day of reading, as we look ahead to our author visit next week with Jerry Craft!!! During our reading of the book New Kid together, students focused on characterization and the themes of kindness, empathy, and belonging!
In small groups, during our Portrait of an Explorer Day and our One Book One School Day, students each shared something about themselves, and others drew a line from their own name to that student’s name if they shared that characteristic/interest. In the end, they produced a really beautiful visual for their group: a “web of connections!”

Congratulations to Evelyn, who placed 5th at the Lake Erie Regional Power of the Pen Tournament (8th grade Division) and is now invited to the State Competition in May! In the coming weeks, other students may be invited to States, as well, based on their scoring at Regionals. Best of luck to all, and congratulations to the entire team for an incredible season!

Congratulations to our Hudson Middle School Science Olympiad team for winning the Akron Regional Science Olympiad Tournament last weekend with a sweep of first and second place! We are so proud of you!!

Collaborative notes in the team learning area, as students organize their research on global issues, kicking off their Changemakers eBook unit!

Math discussions, using our vertical workspaces! Students collaborate to solve problems, and then discuss strategies!
In Language Arts, students explore advantages and disadvantages of different types of media, in their understanding of instructions, as they make and test paper airplanes.
6th and 7th grade student groups compete in the GCCTM Math Competition, after practicing with their teams over the past two months!
