I post lots of pictures here!

Communication Book:  Communication between you and I is very important to me.  Each day my aides and I write in a communication book for your child.  We will give you a brief summary of your child’s day.  I will provide the spiral communication book that I will send home each day and I ask that you send it back the next day. You are welcome to write me any notes in this book.  Please sign the book each night, so that I know you read the summary.

Student Planner:  Each student at EW receives a student planner.  The planner will contain homework and any project instructions.  I will sign the planner each day.  Please sign the planner each night.

Programs:  I am highly pro-inclusion, and will strive to involve your child in as many inclusive activities as possible during the school day.  These activities include but are not limited to; read alouds, 4th grade number corner, various math and reading lessons, science, social studies, lunch, recess, specials, assemblies, and all Team activities.

My aides and I work to create a favorable balance between the inclusion setting and the small group setting.

Programs I use in the small group setting:

Language Arts:  Literacy By Design, A-Z Reading, vocabulary and spelling words individual to your child, Milestones, News 2 You, and any additional programs that may be introduced based on individual learning needs.

Math:  Bridges, Number Corner, Touch Math, Saxon, Kahn Academy, and any additional programs that may be introduced based on individual learning needs.

Homework:  I send home directions for homework each Friday that is due the following Friday.  Occasionally, homework will be sent home on Monday.  Homework may consist of a small packet, a project, a book to be read, or an online assignment.

Snacks:  If your child would like to bring a snack each day, we take a short snack and recess break at 10:10AM.  Also, if you feel that your child would benefit from an afternoon snack as well, you may send one in.  Our team has recess at 11:20AM and the students eat at 11:50AM.  This can make for a long afternoon and I would like to keep energy levels high for learning. : )

Sensory Breaks:  The team has 3 scheduled sensory breaks throughout the day.  The first is at 10:10AM, the second is at 11:20AM, and the 3rd is at 2:00PM.  This consists of any of the following; playground time, gym time, and/or quiet sensory room and gross motor room.  Additional sensory breaks may occur within the classroom setting or out depending on individual student need.

If you did not provide a prefered email and phone number at open house, please email me at my above address with this information.  After I have received everyone’s email, I will begin sending class newsletters and general emails pertaining to class happenings.  Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter to see periodic fun photos.

I can’t wait to get started on this exciting adventure with you and your child!  I look forward to getting to know you and your family and working to help your child be the best student and young person they can be!!!
