Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to the Rourke/Blue team! I am so excited for the great year ahead.
I graduated the University of Akron (GO ZIPS!) with a B.S.B.A. in marketing and advertising with a minor in communications. I later returned to school for my education degree. I earned my Masters degree in education and reading endorsement from Kent State University.
This is my 23rd year of teaching (I know that's shocking given my youthful appearance) and I have been teaching in the Hudson City School District for 19 years. In addition to teaching in the classroom, I am the Language Art Content Facilitator for fifth grade. I also serve on the RTI team, PBIS Committee, and head the Marketing Committee for East Woods Elementary.
I live in Cuyahoga Falls with my husband, Wayne, and daughter, Delaney. Wayne works here in Hudson at Allstate as part of the field education department. Delaney just started her freshman year at Charleston Southern University in South Carolina. She is majoring in Communications with a minor in Sports Marketing. We have a dog named Scout and a cat named Boo Radley, who get all of my attention now that Delaney is at college. We also have a fish named Lil' Uzi Vert, but he is often not metioned since Delaney refused to name him after a character in To Kill a Mockingbird!
In my "free time," I volunteer for committees in my community and serve on the Cuyahoga Falls Athletic Booster Club's executive committee. Delaney was very active in high school. She was a class officer, student council secretary, and cheered for both football and basketball. I was pretty wrapped up in her activites for the last four years (as you do when you are the parent of a high school student) so I decided to continue volunteering this year even though she graduated. Wayne thinks I am doing it to fill the void of my sidekick being gone (he is absolutely correct) and because I don't want to face being an empty nester (also correct!) I love attending sporting events, riding my bike, and photography. Delaney says that I toss in the fact that I was a photography major my freshman year of college into daily conversation, but I don't. (It's like twice a week at most.) I really love getting to know my students and building personal relationships. I am looking forward to a fabulous year!
