Degrees and Certifications:
Relocating from Wilmington, Delaware, Hudson City Schools has been my work home since 1996. My early years in the middle school encompassed 6th, 7th, and/or 8th grade, Language Arts and Math. Since 2002, teaching 8th graders how to be critical readers, writers and thinkers via Language Arts has been my professional mission. I switched to American History in 2015-2016 and have loved combining all the reading and writing skills with America's amazing history.
I earned National Board Certification (ELA Early Adolescence) in 2005, after an intense year of videotaping, analyzing, and passing standardized tests. This performance-based, multiple-measure, peer-reviewed dissertation is the highest certification in the teaching profession. The NCBT status expires after 10 years, so I repeated the process and was recertified in 2015.
My Masters in Education, in 1998 from Kent State University, focused on Curriculum and Instruction in the Middle Grades.
When I graduated from the University of Delaware in 1992, I had earned my Elementary Education (1-8) certification and my Special Education (K-12) certification. I taught in 4th grade for one year, and 6th grade for three years in Wilmington, Delaware.
The personal commitment to a team and personal improvement has been a passion since elementary school. Since returning to Ohio, I have coached Varsity Softball, Middle School Basketball, Middle School Lacrosse and now Middle School Volleyball. Coaching my own daughters in Kiwanis Basketball and son in Kiwanis Baseball has been a joy as well.
Loving ALL sports and the wonderful lessons being on a team can teach a student--I eagerly accepted the position of Middle School Athletic Director this summer. I can't wait to learn from our coaches and our athletes and find ways to serve all stakeholders!
