Snow Days
In the event of a school closing due to winter weather, HCSD families will be notified with a text message, a phone call, and an email. Closings are also posted on the district website, district social media, and on local television stations. If you have had a recent change in your contact information, make sure it is updated in your child’s Home Access Center. Information from HAC is what gets transferred into our mass notification system.
The district will make every effort to call a calamity day by 5:30 a.m. However, there are times when the unpredictability of the weather means the decision will come slightly later. Decisions regarding after-school athletics and extracurriculars will be made by early afternoon.
If the district utilizes the two-hour delay option, there will be NO school for both McDowell AM Preschool and AM Kindergarten. Explorer Zone will not be held on a two-hour delay start day.
Finally, the wind chill chart depicts when the temperatures alone would make it too cold to keep schools open. This serves as a guide in determining when to call a calamity day.
