Welcome to Reading Club! I am so excited to be a part of your child's learning this year. Literacy and teaching are my greatest passions and I feel grateful to be a part of the McDowell team. I enjoy crafting individualized learning experiences to meet the needs of all my students. One of my goals is for each child to feel confident in taking risks in their learning while fostering an everlasting LOVE for reading!
I began my teaching career as a preschool teacher. It was then that I just knew that I wanted to be surrounded by young, inquiring minds for a long time! I have been in the education field for five years and I am excited about beginning my third year as a reading specialist at Hudson City Schools.
I view myself less of a teacher and more as a content facilitator and reflective practitioner. I am a graduate of Kent State University certified in K-3. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Reading Specialization at Kent State to continue delving into the ever-evolving world of literacy. My students are my "why" - the heart and center of all my work. I continue to strive to learn, reflect, and improve my teaching practices to provide them with the best possible learning experiences for them to not only grow - but bloom.

The heart and core of my reading instruction are strong relationships and teacher responsiveness. Learning to read is social and experiential. I pull from my toolbox of many different approaches to provide students with learning experiences that allow knowledge to be constructed within their zones of proximal development. The most special part of the puzzle is that each child is unique - differentiation is key.
“Lead by student choice. When students are inspired and excited, they will grow dramatically. The most important thing is for students to be fully immersed and invested in the topics they are reading and writing about.”

My vision is to not only build a solid foundation of academic knowledge, but also instill confidence and nurture a deep sense of purpose and self in young members of our community.
This year, I am a proud member of an Educational Advisory Board where I have the opportunity to collaboratively develop educational resources and design culminating projects on community building. I am also fortunate to be an active member of multiple coalitions and community projects. I enjoy seeking diverse perspectives and engaging in story telling to learn about others and the world around me.Our young citizens are not merely students, but learners with a skill set, specific strengths and a uniqueness that prepares them to be critical thinkers in an ever-changing world. Our youth, our future, our greatest investment.

My favorite thing in the world is teaching kindergartners how letters and sounds come together to make words and how those words come together to create sentences. We look in a book and my students' eyes widen because they see a word they recognize or when they jump up with joy and the chair falls over because "I CAN READ!!!" (true story). These are the moments that bring me joy every single day. I am grateful to be able to share these special moments and support your child in this magical process of learning how to read.
Outside of my professional life, I am completely human and enjoy things like spending time with my dog, Rocky, my family and friends.
Sports and live sporting events are a huge part of my life - Go Browns, Buckeyes, Cavs, Guardians, Toronto Maple Leafs :)
I absolutely love food and love chocolate. Good thing I enjoy fitness just as much!
I also enjoy traveling, exploring the world and simply being in nature with a good book or article.
