WELCOME TO RESPECT COMMUNITY SOCIAL STUDIES

Dear Families,

My name is Cathy Kantin and I am excited to be your child's social studies teacher this year at Hudson Middle School. This is my sixteenth year teaching in Hudson. Previously I taught sixth grade for ten years in the South Euclid-Lyndhurst City Schools.

I live in Solon with my husband Bob, son Matthew who is twenty-two and twin daughters Ari and Maddie who are twenty. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, exercising, playing Pickleball and reading. 

I am very enthusiastic about teaching and try to make my lessons creative and engaging for students. Students are active learners in my classroom. I have high, but realistic expectations for academics and classroom behavior, and work hard to create a sense of community in the classroom built on mutual respect.  My language arts background is strong as that is what I taught during my first seven years in Hudson. I plan to incorporate both reading and writing into my social studies lessons.  I strive for my students to become critical thinkers who love to learn about the world around them.

Now that you know a little about me, I would like to have the opportunity to get to know more about your child. During class on the first week of school, students wrote to me about their summer, interests,  the most unique place they have visited,  and concerns if any about social studies and/or middle school. Please e-mail me any insights about your child that would help to make social studies and the first year of middle school a positive experience.
