Mrs. Carla Sweitzer

My name is Carla Sweitzer and I'm excited to be your teacher this year! I teach math, language arts, and study strategies classes on the 6 Respect Community. I'm looking forward to my sixteenth year in Hudson!  Prior to this, I have 11 years of teaching experience in both special and regular education. I have a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and Special Education from Wheelock College in Boston, MA. I received my Masters degree in Counseling in 1993 at Gordon Conwell in Boston and love working with children and parents. Since 2006, I have accumulated an additional 45 hours to be current with the curriculum and instructional trends.

My husband Jeff of 36 years and 3 children who are 23, 25, and 29 years have lived in Hudson since 2000 and have enjoyed making Hudson our home. Two years ago, my son Kendall married Anna and now granddaughter named Esther Joanna (18 m).We especially like strolling downtown, picking up coffee at Open Door, and visiting the Learned Own Book Shop or Fair Trade on Main. You can also find us hiking in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and hanging out at our neighborhood lake on hot summer days. We also enjoy camping, exploring Ohio, watching movies, and reading good books.

I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and learning together! Even though the middle school years can be challenging both emotionally and academically, I will be there to support you. I will encourage and challenge you to work to your potential, giving you strategies and skills, to build your academic foundation. I believe that sixth grade provides the essential skills for success for the remainder of your secondary education. Parents, I sincerely thank you for the time, interest, and energy you are investing in your student's education.

I will be using the Ohio standards to help your students succeed in school and to better prepare them for success in college or the work force upon high school graduation. These standards define the skills that your child should know and be able to do in English language arts and math for both success inside and outside the classroom. I look forward to meeting you and working with you in partnership to make this happen! If you have any questions, I can be reached at the Middle School via email at sweitzec@hudson.k12.oh.us or by phone (330)653-1316 and request x2408 to be connected to my voice mail.
