Welcome to First Grade with Mrs. Jensen!
I understand the value of the relationship between home and school, and hope to establish consistent and meaningful communication with you. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have throughout the year. Email is my preferred contact method, but you may also call me at the number below and I will be in touch with you before or after school hours.

Take Home Folders
On the first day of school, your child will receive a red take home folder to be carried to and from school daily. Inside the left pocket is labeled “return to school” and the right pocket is labeled “keep at home”.
We will practice using this folder in class during the first few weeks of school. Please support your child with learning to use their folder at home as well.
There will also be a list on the back of the folder to help you remember what needs to come back and forth to school.
***Please check your child’s backpack and folder each night. :)
If there is ever a change in your child’s regular transportation routine, a written AND dated note must be sent to school with him/her. For your convenience, there are also transportation change forms available on the Ellsworth Hill website located under “For Families/Forms”.
If your child wishes to celebrate his/her birthday at school, you may help them select a favorite book from home to be shared with the class on their special day!
We normally make special birthday cards for the birthday child to take home! This year may be a little different….stay tuned!
Please do not send party invitations to school unless every student is invited. Please refer to the class roster for contact information.
Please send one healthy snack with your child daily. Snacks need to be packed separately from your child’s lunch. All snacks must be NUT FREE. We have “working snacks” in B11. This means your child’s snacks need to be easily opened and eaten in the classroom as we are working.
Examples: popcorn, pretzels, carrot sticks, squeezable applesauce or yogurt, cheese sticks, a cut up apple or other piece of fruit.
Website and Newsletter
Please visit our class website each week for information about what’s happening in B11. Our weekly newsletter will serve as your one-stop shop for staying informed about our most current learning goals, upcoming events, friendly reminders, and any important updates.
I will email you our newsletter each week and also put it on my website.
Conferences and Volunteering
SignUpGenius is a website that allows me to send sign ups for classroom events. You will receive an email notifying you of the events, which you can then easily view and sign up for at your convenience.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for November 12th. I am not totally sure of the procedure at this point, so again stay tuned. One thing I do know is that they will be virtual.
This school year we unfortunately are not permitted to have volunteers in our classrooms. However, there may be a need for things to be done at home to help or in some other capacity. Again, stay tuned!
Scholastic Reading Club
Scholastic reading club catalogs will be sent home as I receive them. Books can also be ordered online at Scholastic.com/bookclubs anytime by using the code below.
Orders will be submitted whenever I get a notification that someone has ordered. Scholastic only accepts checks for orders submitted to the classroom, but credit cards are accepted online. Please make only one check payable to “Scholastic Book Clubs.
Class Code: FZLXP
Odds and Ends
If your child will not be in school, please notify the attendance line at
(330) 653-1300. Please follow all the CDC guidelines.
Please label all personal items including backpacks, lunch boxes. Your child will have his/her own cubby in the hallway, but items can often get mixed up, especially in the winter.
Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. We will be going outside as much as possible this year. Also, please make sure your child has shoes fit for running on the days that we have P.E.!
There will be no official “homework” this year. They are doing plenty of work at home! However, any special projects will be in your child’s take home folder and found on the side that says “return to school”.
We do encourage your child to read at least twenty minutes every day/night. A Raz-Kids account was also purchased for your child to access books online. Also, they can access Epic books during school hours too. Please utilize these wonderful reading tools! I cannot stress enough the importance of reading at home
If you have any unanswered questions, please email me or check the Ellsworth Hill website! Thank you for helping to make our year a great one!!!!
