Mrs. Matchinga

Welcome to A-122!

Hello! My name is Mrs. Kathy Matchinga. I teach third grade at East Woods Intermediate School. and I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with you and your child this year. I would like us to become partners in your child's education! My husband and I are Hudson residents and we're proud to say that all four of our children attended Hudson schools for twelve years! We are so grateful that our fantastic school system provided our children with the education and skills that helped make them the successful professionals they are today!
This year I will be teaching third grade virtually. I have a wonderful classroom set up at home, but will also teach from my East Woods Intermediate classroom, room A-122. I am up for the challenge of teaching virtually, and I can't wait to create strong relationships and bonds with my new third grade students. We are going to rock it this year and I am beyond excited to get started!
My educational credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Miami University, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Early Childhood Education from Kent State University. Additionally, I have earned 45 hours post-Master's, most of which are concentrated in gifted education and literacy, including many courses addressing the needs of struggling readers.
I have served on many committees across the district, including the Strategic Planning Committee, the Gifted and Talented Focus Group, and the Hudson Public Schools Endowment Fund. I am co-chair of the Local Professional Development Committee. I enjoy mentoring new teachers to our profession and I have volunteered as a Supervising Teacher for students in our HHS Service Learning Program for over ten years.  I also served as Co-Language Arts Content Facilitator of third grade for nine years. I am a member of the PTO and am proud to be the third grade teacher representative. Though I worked as an attorney while my children were young, I was fortunate enough to discover that my true passion is teaching, and I am blessed to be entering my nineteenth year as a HCSD third grade teacher.
I believe that every child is unique, special and capable of learning. My goal is to help each child experience success each day, in an atmosphere which is challenging, supportive, safe, nurturing, positive and meaningful. I have high expectations for my students and the strong belief that they will love learning in third grade. My classroom is a warm and caring environment where children feel valued and confident. I encourage responsibility, pride in quality work and flexibility. I expect children to respect themselves and others, and to take ownership of their learning. Each day when I come to work I am thankful for the privilege of teaching young children in our wonderful community.
I look forward to meeting you via Zoom at our Open House, scheduled from 4-6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 26th! A sign-up will be emailed to all parents on Monday, and we will get to meet and talk in a Zoom session in small groups during that time. I can't wait to meet the children of our new Virtual Learning family. It's going to be an amazing year!
