Garden Beds Surrounding River Birches

The raised beds surrounding the River Birch trees were planted in November of 2024.  The primary goal of this project is to slow the flow of stormwater from the bus parking lot.  The beds also buffers the view of the parking lot for the neighbors along North Hayden.  Mostly native species, the following plants were chosen for their ability to effectively work as rain garden plants, provide seasonal interest, absorb water and parking lot pollutants, and delineate the margin of the parking lot while creating a natural mini garden complimenting the 13 River Birch trees.  Plants include:

  • 312 prairie grasses including Shenandoah, Heavy Metal and Rotstrahlbusch switch grasses, and Blue Grama grass
  • 5 False Indigo perennials
  • 78 Sweetspire deciduous shrubs
  • 52 Birds Nest Spruce evergreen shrubs.

This project is 100% funded by ReGreen for Hudson Schools.
