Social and Recreational Opportunities
There are numerous social and recreational opportunities and camps in the area geared towards individuals of all age groups and disabilities that are available year round. If interested, please explore the below list of programs for the appropriate fit for your child.
Hudson Community Education & Recreation (HCER) provides year-round comprehensive learning, enrichment and recreational programs. For students with disabilities that would like to participate in the programs with adult support, HCER will work directly with Hudson City Schools to provide that support. Please indicate when you register that your child will need adult support to participate in the activity.
Centering our programs around values of inclusion, individual empowerment, and compassion, Empower Sports is designed to be a place where everyone belongs. We are intentional about providing an environment crafted for people with disabilities, so holistic growth for individuals, families, and communities is possible. Empower Sports programs provide athletes with diverse challenges the chance to play alongside their typically functioning peers and build friendships that extend beyond sports.

3 Trackers of Ohio is dedicated to the promotion of adaptive recreational sports (cycling, kayaking, water skiing, downhill skiing) to persons with a variety of physical disabilities.
Adaptive Sports Program of Ohio offers competitive and recreational adaptive sport opportunities for individuals with physical and visual disabilities.
All-Star Training Club (a program of UDS) provides an integrated sports program for individuals with or without disabilities where everyone, regardless of ability, is encouraged to participate on the field of athletic competition. Complete array of sports including golf, bowling, basketball, bocce, soccer, gymnastics, and more.
Art For Everyone is an annual art and craft fair held in mid February for families that features unique craft stations with all ability levels in mind. Presented by the Parent Mentors Programs of Hudson, Nordonia Hills, and Twinsburg City School District and in partnership with Twinsburg Parks & Recreation and the City of Twinsburg.

The Autism Society of Greater Akron partnered with the Greater Akron YMCA to develop a Water Safety Program. Participants must have the ability to walk unassisted, and be able to work one-on-one with a swim instructor. NOTE: If your swimmer can swim more than 15 feet in the pool or refuses to enter the water, this program may not be suitable for them.
Beyond Our Boundaries is a recreation service company for adults with Developmental Disabilities (DD). Beyond Our Boundaries offers exciting trips to fun community locations, in hopes of bringing people with DD together for friendships and to set the stage for creating an active social life.
Blue Ribbon Adapted Recreation provides recreation and leisure activities for persons with developmental disabilities, enabling each to enhance their personal potential by sharing in emotional, social, and physical benefits fostered by community based activities. (Associated with Solon Recreation Department - but available to non-residents).
Buddy Up For Life (Formally Buddy Up for Tennis), Akron Chapter exists to serve individuals with Down syndrome with an opportunity to learn to play tennis, attend fitness classes and to impact athletic, social and emotional development.
By The Barn's mission is to provide a destination for differently abled people to leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life, with opportunities for them to develop skills, unleash their creativity, make a difference and give back.
Empower Sports provides sport and exercise programs for children and adults with various physical and cognitive disabilities. Programs emphasize socialization skills, teamwork, discipline and (most important) HAVING FUN!
Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center is an Equine Therapy/Adaptive Horseback Riding Center located in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
Frontier Travel Club is a luxury travel provider and social group for adults on the Autism Spectrum or with other developmental disabilities.
Gliding Stars of Northeast Ohio is an adaptive ice skating program for individuals with disabilities.
Greater Ohio Area SuperKids Classic, Inc. conducts a Soap Box Derby style race for children with disabilities, ages 7 to 18, in Northeast Ohio including Cuyahoga, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit and Wayne Counties, and any county without an official SuperKids race.
Groovy Garfoose provides music therapy services to all ages, abilities, and communities in Northeast Ohio.
Hudson Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities (sports offered include bowling, team bowling, track, bocce, golf and swimming).

Hudson United Soccer4All is a program for children with special needs, aged 4-25. The program is geared toward player development rather than competition. There are two Soccer4All sessions each year in the Spring and Fall.
iCan Shine provides quality learning opportunities in recreational activities for individuals with disabilities. Current programs include: iCan Bike, iCan Swim, and iCan Dance.
