Portrait of an Explorer

In 2019, as part of our District’s strategic planning process, a group of parents, staff, students, administrators, and community members came together, in a process guided by Battelle for Kids, to give consideration to what it means to be a lifelong learner and contributor. During a 4 month process, the group explored the following questions:

• What are the hopes, aspirations, and dreams that our community has for our young people?
• What are the skills and habits of mind (or competencies) that our children need for success in this rapidly changing and complex world?
• What are the implications for the learning experiences we provide in our school systems?

Through this process was born the Portrait of an Explorer, a vision of the competencies that, if developed in our students, will help each of them become their best selves, and competent, contributing members of our ever-changing, diverse world.
