TRYOUTS. In order to have a tee time for tryouts you will need to send me an email (kurtzd@hudson.k12.oh.us) confirming your desire to participate. All forms must be completed prior to trying out. I will be able to monitor who has completed what and automatic notices are sent to you if something needs to get taken care of to be eligible to try-out, practice, or compete. See the Athletics webpage on the school website and look for the "Final Forms" tab. This includes a current physical!! Tryout dates will be August 1 (9:00 am)at Windmill Lakes (10:00 am), August 2 at Ellsworth Meadows (10:00 am), and August 3rd (if necessary) at CC of H (7:00 am). FINAL FORMS is our new online "forms" program. There is a button on the Athletics home page that will take you to their site. You will be able to enter the information entirely online, not need to repeat it for a different sport, I can't lose it, and the info will be in there next year as well!!!! You will still pay the participation fee through "My Payments Plus"and there will be a link within FINAL FORMS to do this.
Be certain to be wearing appropriate attire (no denim, cutoffs, tee shirts, etc) and all players should arrive roughly an hour before they tee off to check in with me. Green fees should be reasonable ($30 or less) but check with the pro shop ahead of time if necessary. Parents will not be permitted to walk the course during tryouts. I will permit players to send texts when they are close to finishing their rounds to reduce waiting time.
My cell number is 330 958 9795 if there are any questions.

SUMMER EVENTS: I check the results on a regular basis so that I have a better understanding of a player’s current ability level, and maybe more importantly, their level of commitment to improving. These events are (mostly) one day events that are affordable and provide a great environment to measure one’s progress. These events are a part the overall picture of who makes the team (varsity and jv).
Players should not be forced into events. If they don’t want to play, then tournament golf is not for them (yet). It’s important for players to gain confidence and the best way to acquire it is to find events where one can be competitive.
Lessons from a pro can eliminate fundamental swing flaws and make the learning curve steeper and the game more enjoyable. Practice sessions should be competitive, not just repetitive, in nature. Set goals such as the number of 3 foot putts made in a row or the number of drives that land onto an imaginary fairway between two landmarks on the range. If you (parents) play, pick up a putter and have a competition on the practice green. If you’re much better, give them a handicap to make it competitive. Hopefully, before long, it’s the other way around and they must give you a few strokes.
