    Dear EWIS Families,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year.  We are so excited to welcome all returning families, 3rd graders, and new families to East Woods Intermediate School (EWIS)!  It has been a busy summer at EWIS.  We are welcoming 16 new staff members and roughly 50 new students.  I apologize up front for the length of this email, but there is a lot of important information to share with you before the start of the school year.

Please let me start by introducing the administrative team at EWIS.  My name is Natalie Wininger and I am the principal at EWIS.  I am in my 24th year of education, 21 of those years have been here in Hudson.  I am also a Hudson graduate….Go Explorers!  Mr. Jeff Morris is the 3rd grade and half of 4th (Williams, Sutton, Maag, Flanders, Antes, Robbins, Benduhn, Koneval) grade assistant principal.  Mr. Morris has worked at East Woods for the past 10 years.   Mrs. Maureen Schreiner is the 5th grade and half of 4th grade (Mummey, Tremblay, Alesci, Harper, Binns, Goetz) assistant principal.  Mrs. Schreiner has worked in the district for the past 8 years.  We are looking forward to supporting each student and helping them grow as young men and women.

    Counselors per grade level

    • 3rd Grade - Kristen Gilliland

    • 4th Grade - Amy Dorsey

    • 5th Grade - Alec Carey

    •

Class Lists Posting: You will be able to see your child’s teacher on Friday, August 12th at 4pm in Home Access Center How to login to HAC.pdf  (HAC).

Open House: EWIS Open House is on Monday, August 15th, from 4:00-6:00pm.  Come in to meet your student’s teacher before the first day of school on Wednesday, August 17th!  Please feel free to bring any of your students supplies during this time.  You can leave all the supplies in your student’s locker.  If you order a supply box you can pick it up in the commons area before heading to your classroom.

First Day Of School: Wednesday, August 17th

Start/Stop times: Students will be able to enter the building at 8:40am and the tardy bell rings at 8:55.  The day ends at 3:40pm. All walkers, bikers, and car riders will be dismissed first, followed by bus riders.  Students will remain in their homerooms until they are dismissed.

Parent Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures: In order to make the environment safe and orderly for our students, we will continue to utilize specific procedures for the drop-off and pick-up of students.  Please click on this link Hudson-EWISTrafficMaps.pdf  to see the traffic map for drop-off and pick-up.

Drop-Off: Students will be allowed in the building at 8:40 a.m.  The school’s responsibility for supervision begins at 8:40 a.m. when the students may enter the building and ends when the students are dismissed at the end of the day. (Students on school grounds before 8:40 a.m. or after dismissal should be under the direct supervision of their parent, coach, club supervisor or other adult.)

Parents will enter either Franklin Street or Evamere driveway.  They will access the access road between the Middle School and East Woods.  They will proceed around the circle in front of East Woods and drop off in front of the building.  Parents will exit through Franklin Street or Evamere.  Please pull all the way up to Door C (the cafeteria entrance) when dropping your child off.  This will help keep the traffic flowing.  It also helps if your children have all their belongings ready to go so they can quickly get out of the car.

Please drive slowly and pay close attention to our students who are walking or biking to school.

Pick-Up: In the afternoon, parents will follow the same process as parent drop-off.  Parents will enter through Franklin Street or Evamere driveway and go down the access road between the Middle School and East Woods.  Parents will follow the circle in front of East Woods to the front of the building where they will pick up their child.  Parents must have their child’s last name, first name written largely and boldly on a piece of paper on the dashboard, this will help us get your students to you in a timely manner.  Parents will exit East Woods through Franklin Street or Evamere.

Please drive slowly and pay close attention to our students who are walking or biking home.

Buses: All buses will pick-up students in the bus lot between East Woods and McDowell.  Buses will exit through East Woods out onto North Hayden. Students who normally travel home on the bus each day must have a written note from a parent each time another arrangement for going home is necessary.

Walkers/Bike Riders: Walkers and bike riders will be dismissed with parent pick-up.  Students are to walk their bikes when they are in front of any building, especially during dismissal.  Students are to stay on the sidewalks around the campus area until they are on the main roads.

Doors to enter by grade level

    • Door A - 3rd grade bus riders

    • Door C - Parent drop-off and pick-up

    • Door K- 4th grade bus riders
