Superintendent Phil Herman's Message about School and the Approaching Holidays.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As the holiday season approaches, many of us enjoy sharing with you the things that we are grateful for each and every day. It has been a challenging year but I have never been more grateful for the way our school community continues to pull together for the benefit of our students. With the help of so many parents, staff, and students, we have been able to provide an excellent educational experience during this pandemic.
By exercising safety protocols at school, and with your continued help at home, we are planning to serve our students in our current learning models (PreK-8, All In, and Grades 9-12, Hybrid) now and in the 15 school days after Thanksgiving and before Winter Break.
It has always been our goal to keep students in school; however, we know that we are in a rapidly moving situation. We are ready to transition to remote instructional learning should we not be able to continue safely in our in-person learning models.
As Ohio and Summit County COVID-19 cases are on the rise, we are closely monitoring the positive cases and quarantines of both staff and students. The recent stay-at home advisory issued by Summit County Public Health last week also drives home the reality that COVID-19 is rapidly rising, not unlike what is happening across our nation.
While our schools are working hard to help prevent the spread of the virus through multiple layers of safety protocols, we are seeing a rise in cases in our community which is reflected in our schools.
As we approach the holidays, we implore you to exercise caution with social gatherings and travel. We ask that you be vigilant in protecting yourself and others by wearing masks, washing hands, social distancing, keeping your children home when they are sick, and limiting group gatherings. None of us like the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, but we do ask that you follow the guidelines for travel and plan to quarantine upon return, if necessary, as specified by the Ohio Department of Health Travel Advisory.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping to keep our students and our staff safe through self-identification when exposed to someone with a positive COVID-19 test result. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, we are piloting a form for parents to use to report a COVID-19 positive test result. Once submitted, the form will automatically go to the appropriate person in your child’s building for COVID reporting. The form will activate Wednesday, November 25th. Please use the form if at all possible; however, you may still email or call a teacher or administrator if necessary. Again, your support has never been more crucial than over the upcoming holidays.
We will keep you informed and up to date on any issues and concerns as they may unfold in this rapidly changing COVID-19 environment. We wish you a happy Thanksgiving, and want to express our profound gratitude for the personal sacrifices you’ve made for our schools to remain open and for our community to remain healthy and safe.
