Important Message from Superintendent Phil Herman, 12.05.20

Dear Parents and Guardians,

From Wednesday, December 9th through January 3rd (end of Winter Break) the Hudson City School District will transition our students to the following learning models. Hudson Middle School and Hudson High School will move to Remote 2.0, and Grades K-5 will move to Hybrid. This change reflects the current levels of COVID-19 risks as determined by Ohio Public Health,  Summit County Public Health, and other local decision making factors as outlined in our October 12, 2020 Hudson Ready Plan.

We are experiencing rising levels of COVID positive test results, with 25 cases in the district in the past two days. In school and out of school cases have resulted in steadily increasing quarantines with 154 students in quarantine as of Friday. While the number of positive cases remain lower in grades PreK-5, we are seeing spread amongst siblings affecting the elementary schools, and returning to 6’ social distancing will provide an additional layer of safety for our students and staff until Winter Break.

This is a hard but necessary decision that we hope will help our school families and staff stay safe and healthy in the weeks ahead.

The schedule for the transition will be as follows:

Monday, December 7 and Tuesday December 8:

  • Middle School and High School students will follow the Blue (A-LAZ) Monday and White (Le-Z) Tuesday hybrid days but will attend classes on the “Friday schedule.” It is a priority for our students and teachers to meet prior to transitioning to Remote Learning 2.0. Specific information about Remote Learning 2.0 schedules and student expectations will be communicated by the building principal.
  • K-5 students will continue all-in with all students attending school
  • Preschool students will follow their current four day schedules

Wednesday, December 9 - Friday, December 18

  • Middle School and High School moves to Remote 2.0
  • K-5 moves to Hybrid with students following the Blue (A-LAZ) schedule on Monday, Wednesday and every other Friday and students following the White (Le-Z) schedule on Tuesday, Thursday, and every other Friday.
  • Preschool students will follow their current four day schedules

Additional Information:

You will receive additional information on our transition over the next few days.  The additional information will include details on schedules, expectations, the option for meals, information for in-person learning for some students with exceptional learning needs, and athletics and extracurricular activities.

There will be no changes to our Option 2 students.  MS/HS VLO registration has been extended to Tuesday, December 16h.

These transitions only apply to the school days from December 9 through Winter Break. We will continue to monitor the virus in our school population, community, and county to determine if future transitions are necessary.

We want to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for your continued support of our school district, students, and staff.
