Hudson Ready Back to School Plan
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Hudson Ready Back to School Plan is a comprehensive plan that is based on the guidance we have received from the Center for Disease Control, Ohio Department of Education, Summit County Public Health, Akron Children’s Hospital, American Academy of Pediatrics, and recommendations from the Ohio Governor’s Office. In addition, your feedback from the Parent Survey has been instrumental in helping us build our plan. We believe that having our students in school with safety protocols in place for COVID-19 is what is best for most children. With the recent change in Summit County from a risk level of Red to Orange, our plan begins ALL IN, with staggered start dates for students beginning August 31, 2020.
As quickly as Summit County moved from a risk level of Orange to Red and then back to Orange, we know that in the next few weeks, and months, the risk levels may change again and again. Crucial to our plan as we move forward is the ability to pivot and be flexible as we make decisions about what learning models/options will best help us keep our students safe.
The District has two options for student learning: Option 1 provides transitions that will help us pivot during risk level changes from ALL IN (students attend school five days per week), to a Hybrid model (students alternate days between attending school, and remote learning 2.0 at home). Option 2 provides 100% full time virtual learning at home by semester or trimester depending on the age of your child(ren).
When children are on the bus and at school, there are many layers of safety protocols that will be in place. The highest priority for keeping students and staff safe is wearing masks, washing hands, and social distance. Our plan includes all of these protocols and increased cleaning protocols.
However, a critical part of the student learning plan is the work that has been done by our district experts: teachers, coordinators, and administrators, who have built curriculum, schedules, pacing, and standards that will provide the continuity needed to allow us to deliver consistent content across all grade levels and to transition to different learning models quickly and systemically depending on the trajectory of COVID 19 during the 2020-21 school year.
We encourage you to watch the presentation given the Board of Education about the Hudson Ready Back to School Plan, and to listen to the in-depth detailed explanation of the full plan given by Superintendent Phil Herman. In addition, there are important next steps including dates and deadlines for you to meet as you make decisions that are in the best interests of your child(ren).
Our schools will be different than pre-Covid-19; however, we CAN celebrate that we are Hudson Ready and looking forward to seeing our students in the fall!
