08/06/2020 Parent Email Message: Important Updates from HCSD!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Reopening schools with the challenge of implementing protocols to mitigate COVID-19, in a rapidly changing environment, is something that all school districts are facing at this time. The Hudson City School District has built and introduced a plan that is designed to keep the student experience at the center of our decisions about learning, health and safety, wellness, and operations.

After launching the plan on July 27th, we are continuing to work on and refine plan details, while responding to your questions and concerns.

Hudson Ready FAQs

The Hudson City School District would like to thank those who have emailed us with questions about the Hudson Ready Back to School Plan. We are reading every email sent to us. In many cases, your questions are very similar and included by category in our FAQ answers on the District’s website. If we missed a topic, we are happy to address it. Some emails are very specific about a student or family situation, those emails are being answered directly. Please bear with us as we are carefully working though the hundreds of emails we have received over the past week. We will continue to update FAQs each day as we receive emails.

Deadline Extended! The deadline for registering for Option 2- 100% Virtual Learning is Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at 5 PM.

Option 2 - 100% Virtual Learning Update

Additional information has been posted on the District’s website about the Option 2 Virtual Learning APEX course selections and supports for students in grades 6-12.

Also, during the Hudson Virtual Learning informational meetings, we indicated that we would be working on solutions for World Languages for students in grades 8-12, Gifted services for students in Tier I, and music, art, and physical education.

Update: World Languages

We are contracting with the ESC of Northeast Ohio for an online curriculum provider for the following:

French I, II, and III

Spanish I, II, and III

Latin I, II*

Chinese I, II*

German I, II

We are continuing to work out an agreement with Eastern Ohio ESC for ASL I and II.

Students who are taking the higher levels of their world language-Levels III*, IV, and AP, if interested, will apply for credit flex/independent study or College Credit Plus through a university. The credit flex application is available on the Guidance Department website on the High School page. Only classes NOT offered through the ESC will be available for Credit Flex.

Credit Flex is an alternative way to earn HS credit through an application process. The due date for these specific courses is waived.

Update: Gifted Services for Option 2

Students (grades 6-8) who are in an enriched language arts program will still sign up for an APEX class but will have scheduled time with a Gifted Intervention Specialist at least twice a week using ZOOM.  This does not replace the need to have an APEX English course (grades 6-8). Students in grades 3-5 will also have scheduled Zoom sessions with a Gifted Intervention Specialist at least twice a week. Students will have their VLO teacher for language arts.

Update: Band, Orchestra, and Vocal Music activities outside of school.

Students in HS band who are in VLO will still participate in Marching Band.

We are working with the Summit County Public Health Department about how to best deliver music instruction while following social distancing and other mitigation strategies.

Coming Soon!

The Hudson City School District will launch a website specifically for our Hudson Ready Back to School Plan. This website will be accessible by using the drop down menu for schools at www.hudson.k12.oh.us.  As we move forward with the launch the week of August 10th, we will begin to post all future information about the Hudson Ready Plan on this site. We sincerely hope that it will be much easier for parents to locate all the District information throughout 2020-21 in the same location!
